Found Pictures

I found a big bag of vintage/antique pictures among items left behind by an evicted tenant. Based on the tenants, and the fact that these were left outside in the weather on a table, I am 100% sure that it was stolen. If you know who’s stuff this is, please let me know so I can get it back to them. They were likely stolen in August 2015 from somewhere in South East Portland.

In addition to the pictures, there is quite a bit of paperwork from Utah, Arizona and Washington D.C. including a life insurance policy card from 1943 for Mr. Joseph A. Reed who lived at 109 Blyer RD in Washington D.C.

Disney California Adventure Park Travel Pictures

These pictures were taken the day after Radiator Springs Racers opened in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park. The lines here were absolutely crazy, three hours to get on the ride itself. There were lots of people waiting in line to see the characters, so many that they were getting turned away. And the parade was absolutely crazy.

The parade was pretty cool though, and a great twist on the one across the way at Magic Kingdom.

Miami Zoo Wallpapers

Back in early January 2013 I took a little trip to Miami. On my previous visit I had not been able to visit the Zoo there like I wanted, so this time I was sure to make time to do so.

First, view outside of my hotel. It was in the town of Miami Beach, right on the beach. Unfortunately I didn’t get a beach front room, but the view from the west side was still quite interesting.

So the drive to the Zoo was actually a pretty long one, and involved a few toll roads – something in all my travels I still haven’t really gotten used too. Thankfully most toll companies allow you to pay the original toll online with minimal fuss these days.

September 2012 Disneyland Trip Pictures

An early fall trip to Disneyland in Los Angeles is starting to be somewhat of a tradition in my family. Once again we drove down from the Portland area along the I-5 corridor. The return trip always includes a stop over in San Francisco. This was the same trip where we stayed only a couple of blocks away from Venice Beach.

We always go to the right, to enter into “Tomorrowland” first. I’m still up in the air about the 1990’s refurbishment, and I really miss the “People Mover” for some reason.

The Astro Orbiter is the first ride in this part of the park. It replaces the older Star Jet Ride that opened in 1974. Geared towards younger children, the ride orbits around a fake orrery showing an unknown Solar System.

One of the cool parts of Tomorrowland is the Star Wars themes. Kids can learn to be Padwans and “fight” both Darth Vader and Darth Maul with their own lightsabers.

The “Moonliner” looks to be the rocket part of the original Star Ride. It remains forlorn as decorations.

If find Tomorrowland fascinating in general because it was a glimpse of the future when it was built. “Tomorrow” held a lot of promise for many people. Now it’s Tomorrow, and it’s interesting to see how much everything not only diverged from that imagination, but also didn’t really change. How practicality trumped wishful thinking, and how certain technologies just never came to be.

The Cymbal monkey is a statue in the “pet cemetery” of one of my favorite rides, the Haunted Mansion. Most of the statues have a pun or funny little saying on them. Most of them are also a bit boring after reading the 100th time though, although I still get a thrill out of the ride and will ride it at least five times during a three day visit.

And of course, the Sailing Ship Columbia that occasionally circles Tom Sawyer’s Island, and plays host to an epic battle between Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Most of the time it just sits there as a huge prop, never moving, and frequently inaccessible.

Beaverton Classic Car Show Pictures

These pictures were taken last summer at a classic car show in Beaverton, Oregon. I don’t know who owns any of the cars, and likely don’t even have the right model and make, but each is gorgeous in it’s own way.

While not really a classic itself, this cool Mercedes UniMog was parked outside the “show.”

We have a very nice white Camaro SS 454. This one has been slightly modified for racing. Between the fat tires and the big air scoop on that engine, you know it goes fast!

A Studebaker? It didn’t have any model badges at all so I couldn’t tell for sure.

This black Chevy Impala is my speed. I like good looking classics that move fast – even when they’re standing still.

I think this is a Pontiac. It’s kitted out as a Limousine, hence the longer back end.

You would think such a unique vehicle would have a bigger presence on the Internet, yet any information about it seems to be hard to find. I did finally find a video on YouTube that explains that it’s a 1951 GMC bus that pulls a 1956 Airstream Trailer, both have been customized a bit.
